Clean air petition targets European Commissioners on World Heart Day

Europe's top heart doctors, patient representatives, policy makers and the public have petitioned European Commissioners for Health, Environment, Climate Change and Transport in Brussels to tackle air and noise pollution. The petition was presented today in a meeting called by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (EACPR), the European Heart Network (EHN) and the MEP Heart Group on the occasion of World Heart Day, which this year focuses on creating heart healthy environments.

The petition, which obtained 2 500 signatures in a very short time, was a result of the 'Environment & the Heart Campaign' which was held to raise awareness about the need to create healthy environments for the protection of heart health and to encourage policymakers' action. 22 concrete measures to tackle COPD: time to act

COPD will be the 3rd leading cause of death by 2030 according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) if  politicians, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders, do not  step up their efforts to act upon this condition.

The European COPD Coalition re-launches its Call to Action drafted in 2011 in September 2015, to better inform the new teams in the European Commission and European Parliament (after the 2014 elections) and provide them with solutions.

Press Release: EConDA - EU Project unveils obesity & smoking trends across Europe and shows how primary prevention is the key to a healthy future

Results of the EConDA (Economics of Chronic Diseases) EU-funded project will be announced today in Brussels at a conference bringing together EU policymakers, health professionals, health economists and health stakeholders from the EU arena.

The project, which lasted 2.5 years, showed how 'upstream' prevention interventions focusing on reducing people's exposure to risk factors before a chronic disease has occurred is generally more cost-effective in terms of healthcare savings – including social care, welfare costs and losses in productivity - than treating an individual for a chronic condition.
