The JA-CHRODIS report “Health Promotion and Primary Prevention in 14 European countries: a comparative overview of key policies, approaches, gaps and needs”

More investment  in health promotion and primary prevention is needed to reduce the burden of chronic diseases across Europe, says a report published  by the Joint Action  CHRODIS on the 15th July. The report provides a comparative  overview of key policies and approaches used to promote health and prevent chronic diseases across 14 European countries.

18/06/2015 – FDA decides that trans fatty acids are no longer safe and have to be eliminatedThe American Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has decided that trans fatty acids (TFAs) are no longer considered as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and have to be eliminated.  Producers have been given until 18 June 2018 to comply. This decision is very timely and should help the European Commission to draw the conclusion that the same is true for the EU.

03/09/2015 – Environment & the Heart – A healthy environment for a healthy heartThe European Society of Cardiology (ESC), together with the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (EACPR) and the European Heart Network (EHN), launched on 29 August, during ESC Congress 2015, a public awareness campaign entitled ‘Environment & the Heart’.

The campaign aims at raising awareness about the need to create healthy environments for the protection of heart health and at encouraging policymakers’ action. Healthcare professionals, patients’ advocates, policymakers and the wider public are all invited to join the campaign by supporting the ‘Environment & the Heart Call for Action’ by signing the online petition here.
